Indonesia’s Bali flood claim 14 lives, displace hundreds
JAKARTA, 12 September (BelTA — ANTARA) — The National Disaster
Mitigation Agency (BNPB) stated that the recent floods in Bali has
claimed at least 14 lives and displaced hundreds of people across seven
districts and cities.
A joint team is actively engaged in
emergency response operations, including searching for missing people,
evacuating flood victims, and mitigating further flood and landslide
risks.
In total, 562 people have been forced to seek shelter.
Victims are taking refuge in various locations, including emergency posts, schools, public halls, and places of worship.
Reports also indicate 18 landslide incidents, with 12 in Karangasem, five in Gianyar, and one in Badung.
To
improve services at the shelters, BNPB has allocated aid including 200
blankets, 200 mattresses, 300 packages of basic food ingredients, 50
family tents, two large shelter tents, one boat, and three water pumps.
In
a separate statement, the Ministry of Environment attributed the
initial cause of the floods to clogged drainage systems caused by trash
buildup during extremely heavy rainfall.
Minister of Environment
Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated that he would launch a full investigation
into the flood’s underlying causes.
